A Brief History of Oxcroft Estate
The Oxcroft Estate was originally part of the Duke of Devonshire's estate and in the early 1930's the then Duke had 40 semi-detached homes built with a central farm built on a site where Oxcroft farm had stood since 1811, here seedlings were grown and the produce processed to market.
Each property had between 4 and 6 acres of workable land, many of the old piggeries have since been converted into workshops, garages and snooker rooms.
With the coming of World war two and food production being a priority the Ministry of Agriculture took over many of the properties controlling the production on the estate which was managed by the LSA - Land Settlement Association. Following the Ministries control many of the properties transferred to private ownership with the sale of much of the land to local farmers changing the estate considerably
Since then many of the properties have been extended whilst retaining sizeable plots and a few have retained there original land allocation, amidst all these changes the estate has continued to flourish to this day.
The estate is a quiet rural retreat often not known to other residents only a mile or two away, in the 1960's the estate was declared a site of Special National interest and as a consequence there are restrictions on what businesses can be on the estate along with no further development.
Please note planning applications for existing buildings and outbuildings are considered under normal planning regulations.
These properties do not often come to market and are considered a significant development opportunity.
