Faulds Wood lies near the upper west edge of a larger woodland overlooking the attractive Borders village of Earlston. This oft overlooked part of the Scottish Borders is a quiet backwater dominated by rolling hills, farms, woods and moorland, and the area is steeped in history dating back to the Iron Age. The proximity of the A68 means that Edinburgh is under an hour’s drive to the north and Newcastle just over 1½ hours to the south.

Apart from a band of young broadleaves in tubes on its northwest fringe, the majority of the wood is composed of young Sitka spruce (plus a smattering of Scots pine), this being the successor crop to a productive stand of conifers harvested four years ago. The young trees have now had two growing seasons and are performing well. The wood was ‘beaten up’ (failures replaced) in 2022 and is fully stocked. There is a small stand of retained birch at the east corner.

Faulds is served by a well-found hard track (accessible to 2WD) which proved invaluable during the previous harvesting operation.  This leads to a generous hardstanding area on the southeast side of the wood from where there are expansive views over adjacent hills and fields.

Being a young plantation, Faulds offers one of the most affordable routes into commercial woodland ownership.
