Part of a larger wooded area, Honeybush Wood is a short distance from the hamlet of Okewood Hill in pastoral West Sussex and is accessed via a track and gates.

Located mostly on level loamy clay soil with gentle undulations, the mature tree canopy to the north consists of Corsican pine, Douglas fir, and hornbeam (some particularly fine hornbeam specimens sit astride parts of the bund at the northern boundary). Occasional beech and birch are also present.

The area further south is largely dominated by lofty Norway spruce with ash, birch, oak, willow and hornbeam in the shrub layer. A few large beech flank the western and eastern sides. Hazel coppice and holly also feature throughout the woodland. Ground flora come spring and summer include clumps of bluebell, primrose, foxglove, honeysuckle and blackberry. Areas of bushy rhododendron add a splash of colour and natural screening in part.

Near the southern boundary a few hollows form seasonal ponds during wetter times - a new owner could consider enhancing these for insects and woodland wildlife. The ash and birch here could certainly serve as a modest fuel source for a domestic burner.

Little owl, rook, long-tailed tit and many harmonious songbirds are known to be present in the area. The woodland is resident to mammals including deer (roe and muntjac), common pipistrelle, fox, badger and hare.

If It Were Mine
A few days here brush-cutting some trails through the pine stems would be on the agenda. Clearing and raking an area in a secluded spot near the centre of the woodland would be ideal for camping with family and friends.
