Description
The Malt House is a picturesque, detached home of about 3500 sq ft, situated in a quiet position within the village of Stinchcombe, on the edge of the Cotswold Hills escarpment. On the doorstep there is beautiful countryside and excellent walking, yet the house is minutes from both the town of Dursley and Junctions 14/15 of the M5 motorway. The property is Grade II listed and believed to date back to the 1600s, previously occupied by Roger Hollister of Stinchcombe in around 1664. The house is believed to have been a former alehouse, and its name was changed from The Lower House to The Malt House in the 1700s. The attractive marlstone elevations conceal many character features within, including exposed beams, a wood staircase and vast inglenook fireplaces, as well as some truly individual features such as a dog gate, believed to have come from nearby Melksham Court; a bread oven and spice cupboard, situated next to the fireplace in the sitting room believed to be more than 400 years old; and a 65ft well to the rear of the property. Internally the house is beautifully presented in a traditional country style which complements its age and character, with scope for further modernisation and personalisation by the new owner.
The spacious interiors are well suited to family life and comprise two good-size reception rooms, a garden room, open plan kitchen/breakfast room with adjoining pantry, a study/home office, boot room and cloakroom with WC. There is a useful cellar for storage plus five bedrooms and three bathrooms arranged over the first and second floors.
Outside
The Malt House is situated close to the heart of the village, with grounds of about three acres extending to the rear. A gravel driveway leads along the side of the house to a large parking area, where there are a number of outbuildings for storage, a garage and a workshop (suitable for conversion, subject to obtaining the necessary consents). Behind the house there is a good-size terrace for outdoor entertaining, mature gardens including lawns, well-stocked borders, established trees and a vegetable patch. The paddock (by separate negotiation) has it's own access from the road and is suited to grazing and leisure activities.
